How Marriage Changes Your Health Results

Where are my married ladies?? This actually applies to all long term relationships!

I recently posted about how the women who achieve the best health outcomes either have super supportive partners or are single. Yep, you heard that right. Sometimes being single is honestly better for your health journey because you don’t have anyone holding you back. But let’s talk about those supportive partners…because they’re gold!

Supportive partners are like teammates. They help remind you to take your supplements, adjust their own habits to support your diet changes, and are genuinely on board with your health journey. I’ve even had husbands join their wives on Dutch test calls to better understand what changes need to be made.

But let’s be real—sometimes, that’s not the case. Some partners just don’t get it. They question why you’re making certain changes, belittle your symptoms, and even try to control your spending on health-related expenses like supplements or hormone testing. I’ve seen it all, and it can be incredibly frustrating for the women dealing with this.

Imagine you’re playing a team sport like basketball. You’re playing your heart out, trying to do your role really well. But your guard isn’t passing you the ball, and they’re not doing their part. It’s frustrating, right? The same goes for relationships. If your partner isn’t being a teammate and helping you reach your health goals, it’s going to be a lot harder.

I’ve heard stories from women who are struggling with unsupportive partners, and it’s heartbreaking. One woman recently told me her husband said she had no right to follow through with her health plan without asking his permission. What?! I had to double-check my emails because she initially told me she had discussed it with him and got the green light.

It’s not always as easy as just leaving the partner, either. People can hide who they really are, and relationships can change over time. Life happens—people go through traumas, illnesses, or depression that can alter their behavior. I’ve seen it happen time and time again with the women I work with, friends, and even family members.

So, what can you do if you’re in a situation like this? If you feel like you have an unsupportive partner, ask yourself some hard questions: Are they really a teammate in your health journey? Are they there when you need them, or do you end up explaining yourself and rationalizing your decisions? Do you walk away from conversations feeling even more confused?

If you’re dealing with an unsupportive partner, know that you’re not alone. Many women go through this, and while it’s tough, it doesn’t mean you can’t achieve your health goals. The women I work with in these situations often just push forward anyway. They make the changes they need to make and find ways to get things done despite the lack of support.

Sometimes, you just have to do it anyway—whether it’s changing your diet, adding more protein, or shifting your schedule. You deserve to take charge of your health, even if it means going against the grain.

If you need advice or someone to talk to about your situation, I’m here for you. Feel free to reach out to me. Let’s keep this conversation going and support each other as we navigate these tricky waters.

This is actually something that many of my personal clients navigate during our work together. If you’d like to know more about my upcoming Hormone Solution program, join the waitlist here: https://drbethwestie.com/fhs-waitlist/
