Many women experience weight gain after coming off of birth control and this can be for various reasons.
Each body is different and has a different reaction to birth control and there are different TYPES of birth control!
That being said, there are some general reasons for the post BC weight gain. This is not a one size fits all answer, by any means!
If you have gained weight because of birth control, here are some general things to consider:
– Slower Metabolism: our bodies are meant to store fat anyways, but a slower metabolism will make it very difficult to burn fat.
– Nutrient Depletion: some of the common side effects of birth control are actually from nutrient depletion! Your body needs certain nutrients to keep the hormones in balance, and if you don’t have enough of these your body will become depleted very quickly.
– Loss of Muscle: this will also decrease your performance and ability to burn fat.
The hormones from birth control affect EVERY area of the body, not just your reproductive system!
Because this is such general information, it may be hard to know exactly where to apply it for you. This is why I offer individual coaching!
The best way to overcome hormonal weight gain is to start working with your cycle. This includes nutrition, movement, hormone testing, sleep, supplements, stress management, seed cycling, protein pacing, carb cycling, etc. I include all of these things when you work with me.
